I've seen a neighbor stand in the front yard and shoot a squirrel out of his tree and I really did not appreciate having him as a neighbor. At the same time, trapping and relocating the animal to a place where it won't have a chance isn't a solution either.

Anne McCormackhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04411395323766178814noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1678931284680339665.post-45994534680064871612011-10-23T11:03:06.608-05:002011-10-23T11:03:06.608-05:00Relocating wildlife is problematic - good way to m...Relocating wildlife is problematic - good way to move around diseases, shift a problem to another's backyard, or move an animal to some place it will slowly starve. This is probably especially true for territorial animals like squirrels - any appropriate natural habitat you move it to is probably already taken and any newcomer is likely to be beaten up and then starve. He climbs into/onto things intended for the birds and lounges away as he eats. Literally, he's 3/4 on his back, just kind of turning over on his cheek to imbibe. He looks like Josephine de Beauharnais being feed grapes on a fainting couch! You can tell that he's really scared that we're just about to chase him off ;-)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1678931284680339665.post-80353001176790931082011-10-17T07:03:33.531-05:002011-10-17T07:03:33.531-05:00Anne -- it's illegal to relocate wild animals ...Anne -- it's illegal to relocate wild animals in Missouri. I'm not sure of the logic behind it, but I learned this a few years back when I contacted the Dept. of Conservation when a neighbor was trapping and killing raccoons on his deck.

If this info is wrong or has changed, please let me know!Alanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13393082652312828458noreply@blogger.com
